How not to chase in poker?

How not to chase in poker?
Basically, me and a few mates have recently taken up a bit of friendly poker on the weekends. At the moment we are keeping the pot small (£6) as a few of us are new to the game whilst a few have played casually for two years… eventually we’ll up the pot. Anyway, I’ve learnt that if i’m patient I actually get some good results.. unfortunately i learnt this too late in the last game so I ended up losing… I was coming back though! I just wanted to know how not to chase? I mean, imagine you have an A-J(s) and on the flop a Q-10-6 get put down, you’re waiting for a K… that is chasing and the odds of the King coming up are low… but then if you don’t chase, how are you ever supposed to get Royal Flushes, Flushes, and even straights…etc? You can’t expect the flop to always come out perfect but when you have a nice starting pair like the one above and the flop comes out pretty close, its go to be worth going in for surely? Also, any tips for winning poker games would be greatly appreciated… At the moment, we’re only betting on small change but I just hate accepting defeat!

Chasing can’t be helped, unless you flop your run. You can make you odds a little better buy chasing runs with more card options.

e.g holding 3 of hearts 4 of hearts flop a 2 a jack and a 5

you now hold 2, 3, 4, 5

chasing an ace or a 6 for your run, so you are now looking for 2 cards rather than 1.

Just to let you know your will fold when you should have stayed in and you will stay in / go all in when you shouldn’t…… that’s just the way it is
